Co-Living is a sustainable alternative to other residential models, promoting community and saving on operational energy through shared living spaces. Modulor 1 is an 18-unit Co-Living project in Cologne, Germany, which is composed of a pre-fabricated CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) wood modules. Each residential program is composed of 1-2 modules, enhancing the speed and reducing the cost of construction. A flexible system, applied to this site, the modules were offset to maximize legal light and air.

Engineered wood products, such as CLT are light-weight, sustainable, and structurally viable product options that can compete with the performance of their counterparts in steel and concrete construction. The forest becomes a regulated ‘carbon sink,’ which is grown in excess of the material required for construction. While engineered wood is in the nascent of its use in architecture, it has proven to perform superior to its steel and concrete counterparts in a fire. Robotics is an integral component of the future of the engineered wood industry.
